How do I get the best from my juicer?
Fruit and vegetables are seasonal. If you buy them outside their normal season, they have been kept in storage for some time, and may not be at their best nutritionally. Seasonal produce is not only better – it’s cheaper as well.
Juice slowly
Push the juice into the juicer slowly. This helps you get the maximum amount of juice from each piece of fruit. Turn the juicer down to low speed for soft fruits, which also helps get more juice.
Prepare your fruit
If your fruit has hard or inedible skin (like melons or most tropical fruits) peel them before you juice. And remove stones from stone fruit. If your fruit has edible skin, like apples, toss them straight in.
Grapefruit
Buy the heaviest grapefruit, as they contain the most juice.
Carrots
When you juice carrots, put the pointy ends in last.
Apples
Apple juice can go brown if left for a while. A small amount of lemon juice will help it keep longer.
Herbs
Bundle herbs, sprouts and leafy green vegetables together, then juice them at low speed.
